Photography for Beginners


This one-day Photography for Beginners course will run from 10.30am - 4pm on Saturday September 7th 2024.

You will first get to understand the fundamentals, and how to take better photos, be that on your phone, or with a DSLR or film camera.

Camera dials and buttons explained.

Exposure, what is it and what is a correct exposure?

Composition, why it important?

Focus, auto focus or manual, getting things sharp.

Aperture, creative depth of field.

Shutter speed, how to use it, where and when.

Lighting, why it makes or breaks a shot.


You will then head off into the beautiful Gardens to put into practice what you have just learned.

Finally, you will then return to share, discuss and perfect your images.


Course Tutor: Adrian Burrows
Adrian is an established photographer and film-maker, providing clients with creative solutions where strong imagery is the focus of the brief.
His clients span the arts, education, private and public sectors, and has been operating from his Birmingham base for more than 20 years.
His work falls into two broad areas: editorial advertising photography and commissions as an artist; but the one thing that remains the same is his approach and style.
First and foremost, a creative. Fundamental to his approach is strong lighting and composition – these two vital elements combine to deliver images with impact.
